Introduce yourself
Since we live so close to Butcher park, and it is a fun place to bring our dog, we wanted to start this group as the first one on Dog-Park-USA.
So please introduce yourself you when you join this group. Let use know how to found Butcher Park in San Jose, and who you bring with you.
Dory, is your half beagle/half terrier mix that has been spotlighted a few times already. She love meeting all the new dogs, but sometimes when the park is crowded she sticks close to us. We grew up in this neighborhood, so we were very excited when the city finally attached a dog park here.
Fridley Loves Dog Park Romps!
I live in Lincoln City, Oregon, and my Australian Shepherd Fridley gets regular walks and occasional off-leash romps on the beaches in the area. Winter months are wonderful, and most weekdays he gets a little time off-leash. However, we miss having a dog park nearby. I recognize that not everyone on the beach wishes to become acquainted with the word's most affectionate Aussie, and that their dogs may or may not be socialized enough to handle an enthusiastic encounter. So he only goes off-leash when there are no other people or dogs nearby.
We've done a lot of traveling around the country, and try to find dog parks wherever we go. When I get a little time, I'll go through your listings and try to add some off-leash areas we've been to - and add information about others, if needed.
But right now, we're heading off to Salem, to find the 2 dog parks in that area - thanks to your website, we know where to look!
Why do I want a dog park in Cottonwood, AZ?
Our community in central Arizona deserves an exclusive park where dogs can be dogs and play in a safe environment- and so do our communities dogs. We have many visitors to our area and they too need a place to let their dogs romp and relax. We have had many confrontations by non-dog lovers at the local fields when we've taken our dogs to play so I decided it was time that we made an effort to create an off leash park JUST for dogs. Thankfully our City was responsive and provided us with 1 1/3 acres for a park as long as we could privately finance it. We had our first meeting in January of 2007 and last weekend we planted the grass seed! We hope to be open around the 1st of October of this year and then the park will become a city park.
As with any volunteer organization it has been a LOT of work with a very FEW dedicated people. But we were determined to succeed for our dogs and that had a very positive influence on our City administrators. We patiently explained to everyone that we simply HAD no time to waste since we were working in "dog years" to finish it!
We planted the grass seed a week ago and most of the fencing has been completed. We have 3 areas: large dog, small/shy dog and a training/discipline area that will be used by multiple local law enforcement groups for their seasonal k9 training. We hope to have a wading pool in the two main areas and will have self closing gates into each area off of a fenced entry area. Our irrigation system is fed from the city irrigation ditch and we have fresh water available as well. A local nursery is offering contractors pricing to anyone that would like to purchase a tree to place in our park. So it's really coming together....in spite of our recent economic down turns.
Hope you all stop by and enjoy our park whenever you're in the neighborhood!

Thanks for this great
Thanks for this great update. Could you tell us where this new dog park is located. This sounds like it will be a great place to have fun, and it is so neat that the community came together like that.
